Blaming technical faults for power cuts, Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Sunday asked power distribution companies to “pull up their socks” to provide “reliable and satisfactory power supply” across the Capital. In a review meeting with officers of Discoms and the government’s own power depa

rtment, Dikshit said Delhi had enough power to meet peak demand and that there was no reason why power supply should be interrupted.

“There is no shortage of power in Delhi. In fact, it is in surplus,” Dikshit said.

Senior power department officials said the peak power demand last week touched 4,421 megawatt while availability of power was 4,637 megawatt.

Reviewing water supply and demand in peak summer, Dikshit asked Delhi Jal Board (DJB) officials to make arrangements to ensure equitable distribution of water.

“Discoms have been told to provide back-up power to DJB so there is no interruption in drinking water supply,” she said.
