As the university has decided to do away with all kinds of pre-admission registration forms for general and OBC candidates this year, most candidates are banking on the DU website and the facilities like e-open days, web chat and social networking profiles for guidance.
But the Facebook profile, announced by the vice-chancellor in February, is not yet released. The e-open day which was scheduled to be accessible from May 15 is still under construction.
Despite repeated attempts, the dean of students’ welfare (DSW), J M Khurana, could not be contacted on Sunday.
Most outstation DU aspirants have deferred their visit to Delhi as there are no forms to be submitted. Hence, they are banking solely on the e-open days for counselling. Frustrated over the delay, Rajesh Mehta of Lucknow said: “How can it take such a long time to fix this? Doesn’t the DU administration anticipate that the visits to the website will increase during the admission season?”
Aspirants are also at a sea trying to locate the web chat link on the new DU website. “The new website is sleek but not at all user friendly. There is no links to the web chat. The information on the admission pages are very basic. There was such hype about e-open days and the IT technology adopted by the university and its colleges. The website should have reflected that,” said Chiranjeet Baruah from Assam.
The deputy dean of students’ welfare, Gurpreet Singh Tuteja, had said earlier: “We will also upload a 20-minute open-day presentation on the DU website by May 15″ but there was a delay here, too. He said on Sunday: “The delay happened because the files are heavy and with thousands of students daily visiting the DU website, streaming of such heavy files will create problem for the server. It is expected to be online by Monday.”
