One might think that Raghava Reddy Solipuram, sitting in faraway Houston in Texas, US, has no idea of the Jan Lokpal bill nor the need to join the Anna Hazare movement. But Raghava thinks differently. An IT consultant from Hyderabad who has been living in Houston since the last three years, Raghava is a key organiser of an anti-corruption movement by Indians in that city.

On August 14, more than 300 Indians living in Houston gathered outside the Indian consulate in the city to stage a peaceful protest against corruption in India and in support of the Jan Lokpal bill.

“Even though we live here, our hearts are back home,” he told TOI. “I want India to have good governance and stand out among other countries. For most of us here, this feeling of patriotism grows stronger once we come out of the country.”

On August 16, when India protested against the arrest of Anna Hazare, 150 Indians in the US staged a symbolic ‘Jail Bharo’ outside the Indian Consulate in Houston.
