Manmohan Singh is willing to break his “vegetarian vow” during the Bangladesh visit if there is hilsa on his plate.
“I am willing to make that exception.”
Singh had dined on a vegetarian fare during President Barack Obama’s first state dinner at the White House in
2009. Obama, too, was served an all-vegetarian meal when he visited New Delhi last November.
Hilsa could also figure during Singh’s talks with his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina.
Stung by the high prices of hilsa that touched Rs 1,000 a kg in Kolkata, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee recently sought Delhi’s intervention to increase imports.
