Unable to sell his house because of objection from his wife, a 48-year-oldbusinessman allegedly hacked his spouse to death after his attempt to inject snake poison into her veins failed in Pattanagere, BHEL Layout, Rajarajeshwarinagar, on Sunday. The victim has been identified as Bharathi, 40, a housewife. Police have arrested the accused Shivananda MJ, who has confessed to killing his wife.
Shivananda and Bharathi had disagreement over selling their house. Shivananda killed Bharathi as she objected to the plan of selling the house, the couple’s son Vinay Prasad, 19, told police.
In his statement to police, Vinay said that he went to sleep around 10 pm on Saturday. His parents were sleeping in their room.
Around 2 am, he heard his mother scream. Vinay, who found his mother on the floor in a pool of blood, immediately took her to Manipal Hospital. Doctors declared her brought dead.
On being asked by Vinay, Shivananda confessed to killing Bharathi.
Well-planned murder
Shivananda had meticulously planned to eliminate Bharathi. He first gave her sleeping pills to make her unconscious. The accused then attempted to inject snake poison into her veins. However, the needle of the syringe broke and Bharathi too woke up.
An argument ensued and in the heat of the moment, Shivananada killed her with a machete.
Shivananada and Bharathi were married for 20 years. The couple’s other son Naveen S was not in the house when the incident occurred. He had gone to a relative’s house in Manganahalli.
Police handed over the body to the family after post-mortem. A case has been registered in Rajarajeswarinagar police station.
