CHANDIGARH: The news of Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir getting married soon after the ongoing India-England one-day series has broken the hearts of many girls. Gambhir, 30, also known as Gauti, will tie the knot with Natasha Jain on October 28 at the Gurgaon farmhouse in a very low-key affair.
“I am a hard-core fan of Gauti and his charismatic personality and flamboyant approach on the field. Many hearts are going to break in our hostel after his wedding,” Aishwarya Sood, a management student, told TOI. “Girls really like his poise and simple attitude. He is not among those guys who create unnecessary noise and ruckus to draw attention. He has a huge fan following among girls,” pointed Sood.
Shivani Dhiman, a student of BSc in information technology, said, “Though I am not a big cricket fan but I have always liked Gambhir for his hard-hitting strokes. This time, the enthusiasm is at its peak as he would wed immediately after this series.” “I had got a chance to interact with him during the last IPL season. He is very down-to-earth and does not carry any air,” she added.
Indian team reached Chandigarh on Tuesday whereas Gambhir arrived on Wednesday. India will play against England at the Panjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium in Mohali on Thursday. Gambhir will miss Twenty-20 match on October 29 because of his wedding ceremonies.
“Gambhir is one of the most eligible bachelors of the country and any girl would love to marry him without giving a second thought. Though I am feeling bad but still have decided to celebrate his wedding by cutting a cake at our hostel,” said Priyanka Moudgil, another young fan of Gambhir.
Gambhir, who hails from Delhi, had made his international debut in April 2003 against Bangladesh. Preeti Thakur, a BSc student and keen follower of Gambhir, said, “I will be in the stadium on Thursday just to have a close glimpse of him and cheer for him. He is a dream man for any girl. I want to congratulate him and want him to hit a century in tomorrow’s match.”
