Anna Hazare has rejected the Lokpal Bill draft prepared by the Parliament Standing Committee headed by Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi claiming that the panel has insulted Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by ignoring his letter in which he had assured Team Anna that the Government was committed to a strong anti-corruption body.
In an exclusive interview to IBN Lokmat on Friday, Hazare alleged that Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi had pressured the Standing Committee on the Lokpal Bill.
“Rahul’s suggestion to give constitutional status to Lokpal is a tactic to pass time,” said Hazare.
Claiming that Manmohan Singh was a weak prime minister, Hazare said that it was a dangerous situation.
“There are many prime ministers in the Cabinet and they don’t listen to Manmohan Singh. If the Prime Minister wanted, he could have brought a strong Lokpal Act. It’s dangerous to have such a weak prime minister,” he said.
Hazare blamed Union HRD and Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal and Home Minister P Chidambaram for the “confusion” over Lokpal. He announced that he would campaign against Sibal in his constituency.
“If a strong Lokpal Bill is not passed, I will campaign against the Congress party during 2014 Lok Sabha elections,” he added.
