Two drunk Army jawans not only beat up a woman passenger but also attempted to molest another woman passenger at Nawada railway station on Friday afternoon. The jawans, who reeked of liquor, also manhandled the GRP and the public on the platform when they tried to overpower the duo. Both the Army jawans were finally overpowered by the GRP and taken into custody.
The misbehaviour of the jawans did not end even after their arrest, but continued at Nawada Sadar Hospital, too, where they abused the doctors who tried to medically examine them. The injured woman was also referred to Sadar Hospital for treatment.
According to sources, the incident occurred at Nawada railway station at 4 pm when they tried to molest a woman passenger when she tried to detrain for going to the bathroom. The woman, Babli Devi, 45, was to disembark ahead at Warisaliganj railway station, 20 km from Nawada railway station, in order to proceed to her native village, Kesauri, under Pakribaranwa police station.
Both the jawans, identified as Neeraj Kumar and Praduman Chakraborty, were travelling in the Howrah-bound Gaya-Howrah Express. Commuters said that the jawans were highly intoxicated and tried to grapple with the Nawada GRP as well as the public.
