A 21-year-old woman was critically injured after she fell 20 feet from a Delhi Metro station platform in east Delhi around 12pm on Tuesday. She was admitted to hospital with head injuries, police said.
The woman landed on a road below the platform of Preet Vihar Metro Station, and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
“The woman has suffered severe head injuries. It is not clear whether she tried to commit suicide or if it was an accident. We are investigating the incident and checking CCTV footage,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Railways, BS Gurjar said.
However, a Metro official said, “The railings on the platforms of all Metro stations are too high for an individual to slip or topple over them. A person simply leaning against a railing could not fall. It appears the woman made an attempt to scale the railing.”
Mishaps at Metro stations appear to be on the rise. On Jan 27, a woman was injured after she jumped from one of the platforms at Kanhaiya Nagar Metro Station in north Delhi.
