A Motor Accident Claims Tribunal has asked Delhi Police to pay a compensation of about Rs 25 lakh to the family of a constable who died in a PCR van accident due to negligence of the driver.

Holding the driver of the PCR van liable , MACT presiding officer Shailender Kaur directed Delhi Police to pay Rs 24,95,395 to the family of head constable Suresh Chandra, who died in the accident five years ago.

“The fact that respondent number one (driver) had to swerve his vehicle to the left in itself shows that he was driving negligently and at speed due to which he could not control the van on suddenly seeing something which came in front of it,” the tribunal said.
