The body of a four-year-old girl was found at a field in Garhi Mendu in northeast Delhi on Monday afternoon even as Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit met Home Minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday to discuss the law and order situation.
The girl had been missing from her house since last Tuesday. A passerby discovered the decomposed body in the field on Monday afternoon.
The police said the passerby called up to say that the body, was probably eaten by animals, was lying in a field.
This is the fourth time in the past week that a female body has recovered in the capital. The previous three cases were reported from different areas and none of the victims have been identified so far.
The girl has been identified as Ilma. Her parents had lodged a missing complaint with the Khajuri Khas police on April 25.
Her parents were called and they identified the body from her clothes and slippers, the officer added.
The girl was last seen playing outside her house on April 25. She was apparently kidnapped and killed. A case of murder has been registered against unknown persons, said a police officer.
Dikshit met Chidambaram on Tuesday following the recent recovery of bodies of women .
Officials said 858 unidentified bodies had been recovered in the last four months, forcing the CM to discuss the matter with the Home Minister.
According to sources, Dikshit requested the Home Minister to direct the police to examine the matter seriously. Delhi Police comes under the administrative control of the Home Ministry.
She said the recovery of the bodies had created panic among the citizens.
The sources said Chidambaram assured the CM that he would look into the issue.
As per Delhi police’s Zipnet, which maintains record of missing persons and unidentified bodies, 858 bodies have been recovered from Delhi this year till Tuesday. Last year, 3,337 bodies were recovered.
She also informed the home minister about the constitution of three new civic bodies.
