
If you are still in the habit of mixing drinking with driving, then think twice.
For, in the first five months of this year, 20 people on an average were jailed daily in Delhi because of drunken driving.
According to latest statistics released by the Delhi Traffic Police, 3,049 people have been sentenced to jail for drink driving till May 31.
Last year, 2,960 people were sentenced in such cases till December. It corresponds to a 110 per cent jump this year.
While six people were sent to jail for more than 10 days, 36 people were jailed for four to nine days and remaining 3,007 people were jailed for up to three days.
In a recent case, a commercial vehicle driver was jailed for a record one month by a traffic court for driving under the influence.
Joint CP (traffic) Satyendra Garg said: “The effect of this strict action against drink driving is lesser accidents in the city and lesser deaths on roads.”
